Guess what? Famous people lie! I guess they aren’t so different from us after all.
Of course, the stakes are a little higher for celebrities than they are for non-famous folks who fudge the truth.
While some of these lies are sort of understandable, some of them are actually pretty strange.
Either way, the truth eventually got out.
Tyga has been claiming for years that he grew up in Compton, but then a video of the young rapper surfaced that showed him describing a wealthy upbringing in the Valley.
He has since said that he did, in fact, live in the Valley — but only for a short time.
You probably remember Beyoncé’s iconic 2006 ballad, “Irreplaceable.”
But did you know that Beyoncé once claimed she had written the song? A few years later, Ne-Yo revealed that he actually wrote it and gave it to her because he thought it was better suited to a female singer.
The world-famous cyclist dodged claims that he had been doping for years, but the truth finally came out when his several of his former riding partners were caught.
When Mila Kunis first auditioned for That ’70s Show, she told the producers she was turning 18.
The actress was actually just 14 years old at the time! When the producers found out, they decided to keep her in the role anyway.
5. James Frey
A Million Little Pieces is a memoir chronicling James Frey’s battle with drug addiction. It topped the New York Times best-seller list and was even a favorite of Oprah’s Book Club.
The problem? He made a lot of it up.
In 2002, Brandy shocked her fans when she said she had secretly married producer Robert Smith. The couple even starred in a reality show about the birth of their daughter.
However, when the relationship fell apart, she revealed they’d faked the marriage to preserve her image.
7. Meg and Jack White
This one is a little weird.
Back in the early days of The White Stripes, Meg and Jack White claimed they were brother and sister.
But after a marriage certificate was found, the duo revealed they were actually married and not related.
8. Britney Spears
The pop star once posted a photo of some grilled corn with the caption “It’s honestly too good to be true.”
Well, that’s true! A Twitter user realized that the photo was actually one of the first stock images to come up when you google “Mexican grilled corn.”
9. Bow Wow
It didn’t take long for Bow Wow to get caught in this lie.
After posting a picture that bragged about flying on a private jet, the rapper was spotted by a fan on a commercial flight.
The private jet turned out to be a stock photo.
10. Khloe Kardashian
This Kardashian sister posted a picture of several pies on Instagram and claimed that she had baked them for Thanksgiving.
Well, the pies bore a striking resemblance to the ones made by a bakery in L.A called Sweet Lady Jane. Hmm.
11. Nicki Minaj
In 2011, Nicki joined the long list of celebrities who have been caught lying about their age.
After Nicki was logged in a police report, it revealed the rapper’s true birthday, and she was forced to admit she was actually born in 1982, not 1984 as she claimed.
12. Kylie Jenner
It seems like old news now, but it wasn’t that long ago when Kylie Jenner claimed her lips only looked bigger because of the way she did her makeup.
On an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, she came clean and admitted she had temporary lip fillers.
13. Rick Ross
Rapper Rick Ross is known for his hit tracks like “Hustlin'” and “Stay Schemin’.”
But in 2008, a photograph of Ross revealed that he had once worked as a correctional officer before hitting it big.
He initially claimed the photo was photoshopped before admitting it was true.
14. Lindsay Lohan
The actress claimed that while she was completing her community service hours, she was tasked with handling Whitney Houston’s body bag!
The Coroner’s Office quickly called out the lie, revealing that the late singer was never even in a body bag.
15. P. Diddy
The rapper once claimed that he owned a private jet that cost him close to $200,000 in fuel.
But when no jet registered under his name could be found, he admitted that he actually owned a jet wing and it wasn’t even in his name.
16. Manti Te’o
The Notre Dame football star broke hearts everywhere when he spoke out about the recent death of his girlfriend.
Unfortunately, that girlfriend didn’t actually exist. In fact, Te’o now claims he was the victim of an elaborate catfishing scheme and had never met the woman.
